You are here: Clinical Trials
This section is devoted to clinical trials related to skin and beauty. We compiled the index of the trials either currently open for enrollment or scheduled to open in the future.
Pros and cons of participating in clinical trialsParticipating in a trial may have potential benefits. You may get an access to a new promising treatment unavailable to general public. Depending on the market value of the treatment, you may save hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Also, helping to advance scientific research may make you feel good on moral grounds. But there are some big caveats too. If the trial is investigating a new treatment, there may be unknown short and long-term risks, which are likely to be greater than those of the established treatments. Receiving a treatment as a part of a clinical trial may require a significantly greater effort and time commitment on your part. Also, the nearest facility participating in the trial may be located too far to make the commute worth it. (Notably, some trials are structured to allow the participants to avoid commute to a designated facility.) All of the above has to be taken into account and weighed carefully. How closely does the trial's purpose match your health and/or beauty needs? Are you eligible based on the enrollment criteria? Does the trial involve a new treatment with unknown risks or an established treatment? Is this treatment available on the market? If it is, how much would it cost to simply pay for it? Have similar trials been done in the past and what have been the results? (Search research publications to find out.) If this is a placebo-controlled trial, will those who get placebo also receive the active treatment free of charge afterwards? What are the time commitment and commute requirements? Are the participants being paid? Contact the officials of the trial of interest. Ask all the relevant questions. Do you own research as well. Then weigh all pros and cons and decide if you wish to enroll.
