Skin Care Review: Benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin
|
by FAith Bartlett, Smith, AL USA
Rating Good
Benefits
Clears cystic acne.
Drawbacks
Need prescription for clindamycin.
Details I had not suffered from acne until after my teen years. I am now 45 and have never had a clear face for over 3 days. I have gone to dermatologists and have tried practically everything on the market. The last trip to the dermatologist, I was given a prescription for clindamycin 1%. I tried this but it did not seem to help. I had also used other products, including benzol peroxide. Recently I read on this website that a combination of clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide could be used, I had never thought of that! Just recently I started mixing a little clindamycin w/ benzol peroxide 10% in the palm of my hand, and applying to break outs. By the way, my break outs are usually on my chin and near my ears on the side of my face and are "cystic". To my surprise, I seem to be having success w/ this combination. It is drying up the cysts w/o the severe dryness which accompanies benzoyl peroxide alone. I would suggest this to anyone. Benzoyl peroxide can be found at the Dollar Stores, and is usually around $2.00; however, clindamycin is a prescription drug & the cost will depend on the type of your insurance
Conclusions
It wouldn't hurt to give this a try.
