Skin Care Review: Proactiv Sensitive Skin LIne
|
by Jodi Hudson, Chico, CA 95973
Rating Good
Benefits
Good for sensitive skin & skin allergies. Does not dry or overmoisturize.
Drawbacks
Not as powerful as the regular line. Expensive for some.
Details I am 30 years old and usually only have hormonal breakouts (right before my period) but the breakouts normally linger for one to three weeks and leave red marks sometimes for months. So, out of a month, I might have one week of pretty good skin. Also, I have enlarged pores around my cheeks, nose and chin, which have blackheads I never seem to get rid of. I also tend towards dry skin, which is a difficult combination with breakouts since most products for acne are also for oily skin. I typically feel that I need to wear makeup to cover up my enlarged pores, stubborn blackheads, and discolorations from old blemishes.
With that said, Proactiv Sensitive works pretty well. It includes a 3-step process: cleanse, tone, moisturize (different moisturizers for day and night). Comes with a salicytic acne mask as a freebee. I like the mask. Key ingredient in product line is salicytic acid.
With the original Proactiv line I had really good results as far as reduction in breakouts, especially reduction in breakout time and severity. However, I noticed itching and redness and, especially after I became pregnant and got big red blotches, realized I was allergic to it. I called the company and they refunded my money and then asked if I would like to try the sensitive skin version, which I could also get a refund for if I decided not to keep it. I did like the sensitive skin version pretty well. It wasn't quite as powerful, but did the job most of the time. I especially liked the feeling of the moisturizers, which were not too light or heavy or greasy feeling. Because of the sensitive skin formula, the exfoliating properties were much milder, which I did not like because I felt I needed to exfoliate in another step.
It's just as expensive as the original product, about $40 per kit, and I could no longer afford it as we moved to a one-income household so I could stay home with our baby. But, that said, it's a reasonable cost for most people if you don't use it up really fast and especially if you are allergic to a lot of other products.
One other thing to note is that the product is sent out automatically every month to four months, depending on how you request it and can be changed any time. I found that I did fine on the four month schedule and got the most bang for the buck.
I have not yet found another product line I like as well and so I am considering ordering it again after about a year hiatus and just biting the bullet on the regular expense on a small income.
I would recommend product to people with mild acne, sensitive or allergy-prone skin. I would even recommend trying it for people with more severe acne as Proactiv has a very good return policy.
Conclusions
Recommend product to people with mild acne, sensitive or allergic skin.
