Skin Care Review: Avotone (Avotox)

by Anonymous, Grand Rapids, MI US

Rating
No effect

Benefits
Allegedly smooths wrinkles

Drawbacks
irritating smell, cost, lack of effectiveness

Details
Avotox (recently changed its name to Avotone) is similar to Strivectin and other creams that advertise themselves as alternatives to Botox. They claim to smooth wrinkles by slightly paralyzing the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles, similar to the smoothing mechanism of a Botox injection. I used Avotox for about two months on my crows feet, above the bridge of my nose, and on my forehead. I used it twice a day every day for more than a month, per the product instructions.

Unfortunately, the product did not work for me. While I could feel the paralyzing effect on my skin, nothing happened to the wrinkles. Furthermore, the product has a greasy feel, and the smell is irritating and long-lasting. On the other hand, botox injections have worked for me, especially in smoothing crows feet. My dermatologist has told me that my facial muscles are stronger than most peoples' and that I need a stronger dose of Botox than most people to get good results. That is perhaps why Avotox did not work for me. Nonetheless, it may work for you if your facial muscles are not unusually strong. In addition to being cheaper than Botox and less invasive, it can be used under the eyes and may work for some people there.

Some people report that using this product extends the life of their Botox treatment. So while it did not work for me, it may work for you.

Conclusions
It didn't work for me, but it may work for you.
