Skin Care Review: Photo Dynamic Therapy
|
by Beckie Moore, Cincinnati, OH USA
Rating Satisfactory
Benefits
lesson the appearance of melasma, reduce wrinkles
Drawbacks
very painful, downtime 7-10 days, melasma came back
Details Tried PDT to reduce the appearance of melasma, reduce chances of skin cancer, and to improve the overall appearence of my skin. I was told there would be little downtime. I had to stay away from work and indoors for 7 days. Painful, red, small pustules all over my face, then my top layer of skin completely peeled off. I am even more sun sensitive now, and avoid direct sunlight at all costs. I have a few weird scars where I think the Levulan reacted oddly with my skin, but they're not noticeable to others. My melasma came back immediately (it was the start of the summer, next time I will do it in the dead of winter). No real reduction in wrinkles, but the appearance of my skin improved marginally. Far better results however than with dermabrasion or those chemical peels.
Conclusions
My skin looks better. I'll do it again, unless I can find a better method.
