I've discovered that one of the best fitness routines is also among the cheapest and simplest. Buy a set of light free weights (8-12 pounds works well). Then, if you have a house with multiple levels, simply walk briskly up and down the stairs as many times as you can while holding the weights. This is not only great cardio-vascular exercise -- it does a great job of toning the entire lower body. Obviously, if you don't have stairs in your house this isn't an option, but perhaps you could use the stairs in your office building.
