Hair Care Tip: Reducing Frizz for Fine Hair

submitted by Kellie

Frizziness can be tricky to control in fine hair. Shine serums have become extremely popular in recent years, along with straightening irons. Serums provide a temporary shine fix, however, I find everyday usage dries out the hair and increases the incidence of split ends. Furthermore, regular using of straightening irons is extremely drying and should only be done on occasion using an iron with ceramic plates.

The following tips improve the condition of fine hair reducing frizziness:

  • Shampoo only once with a product designed for fine hair. Do not repeat as overwashing increases frizz.
  • Use a lightweight conditioner containing protein. Silicone based products coat the hair but do not improve overall condition.
  • Pat hair dry with a towel. Do not rub.
  • Avoid blow drying whenever possible. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle and style then leave to dry naturally.
  • Once a week give hair an intense moisturizing treatment masque. Loreal Kerastase Masquintense is an example of a product specifically formulated for fine hair.
  • Use your regular conditioner, or even a moisturiser, on the ends of long hair in dry weather.

My hair has become considerably smoother since following this regimen. I find Loreal Kerastase Masquintense particularly effective.
