Avoid/diminish colds and flue by doing the following two things: 1. The moment you start feeling the symptoms of a cold, like a scratchy throat or itchy nose, mix half a cup of water with about a quarter teaspoon salt. Sniff the mixture by pouring little bits into your had and pulling it into you nose. Sometimes you won't even get sick, but if you do, you'll feel a lot better if you keep this up at least twice a day. It sounds terrible, but it's a wonderful way of clearing and disinfecting the nasal passages, so that for the rest of the day you don't have all that phlegm dripping down your throat and making you sicker. It also prevents infection of your sinuses, and you'll end up hardly noticing that you have a cold. 2. Make a ginger tea of grated fresh ginger and pour it through a sieve. You can add honey if you don't enjoy the taste. It immediately makes you feel better. This is also an excellent remedy for nausea or indigestion. I've been doing this for the past two years and I hardly ever got sick. I had a cold last week and the only symptom was a slightly itchy nose for one day, without that horrible blocked, sore feeling in my sinuses and head that you normally get.
