Skin Care Tip: How to use Retin A long-term

submitted by Mary, Buffalo, NY USA

I have been using Retin A since I was 16 years old for very bad acne. I am now 50 and still using it. I have very oily skin, even now in my older years. Retin A really cleared up my skin. It was like a miracle to me at 16. It took a couple weeks to see improvement but it was very effective. I kept using it religiously through the years because I remained acne-prone and needed Retin A to prevent my severe acne from coming back. I can still get irritation from it if I don't use it very carefully - either by using it very sparingly or by cutting down to 3 times a week. I can only tolerate the 0.025% strength. But that isn't the end of the story! I don't have any wrinkles at 50! I guess using it all these years has made my skin age-proof! A lot of people say it's because I have such oily skin - but more likely it has to be the Retin A since it does such great things for the skin other than clearing up acne. Retin A has been a blessing for me.

Make sure you avoid the side-effects. Find the level you can tolerate without irritation, peeling or too much dryness. If needed, use low strength, apply small amounts or skip a day or two between applications.
