Skin Care Tip: Tea tree oil for acne
|
submitted by Allison Wild, Aston Rowant, United Kingdom
Tip description / details: Tea tree oil is extracted from the tea tree plant (Melaleuca alternifolia) and can be used in high concentration to remarkable effect. It is well known for its numerous beneficial effects as a natural, deep cleansing, antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral and antimicrobial agent as well as an immuno-stimulant. Therefore it has the ability of deep cleansing oily or troubled skin & hair types, as it helps to remove harmful bacteria, fighting the effects of grease, pollution and environmental dirt. It may be used topically for some skin infections.
This is a wonderful tip for acne-prone skin since scientists and dermatologists are now theorizing that it is the surface infections on skin which exacerbate and maintain the acne condition.
However a Swedish doctor told me that adding at least 2% tea tree oil (of total volume of your skin care cream) will preserve your cream as well. In this way you can do away with harsh and unnatural preservatives like parabens, when you are making your own creams.
Since I started using a formulation which included 2% tea tree oil, my hormonal-related acne has cleared up as has my seborrheic dermatitis.
