Lipostructure is a procedure pioneered by Dr. Sidney Coleman in NYC. It involves transplanting fat via a special method allowing most (around 90%) of the transplanted fat to survive long term. Besides the targeted benefits of filling in depressions and hollow areas of the face, it has been discovered more recently that treated areas also enjoy a visual improvement in skin quality over approximately 6-12 months after treatment. Perhaps the fat cells introduced into the face stimulate the restoration of adjacent skin matrix. It is well known that fat cells produce some estrogens, and the estrogens are good for the skin, so perhaps that's how it works. A discussion of this benefit to the skin along with high quality before and after (as much as 10 years) is included in the publication Structural Fat Grafting by Dr. Sidney Coleman, Quality Medical Publishing, St. Louis, MO, 2004. I have had two procedures done on my face over the last 3 years and have noticed an improvement in skin quality with reduced fine lines and wrinkles. This combined with the usual benefits of permanent plumping makes for a dramatic difference. But it is not cheap: $3000+ per procedure.
