I have struggled periodically with perioral dermatitis--redness and little whiteheads/pustules around my mouth. This particularly occurs for me when living in dry climates. In the past, I used topical and oral antibiotics, but found that simply by washing my face less and using Dove soap for sensitive skin and Johnson & Johnson's Purpose lotion, I was able to reduce the problem. Recently, I also discovered the harsh effects of sodium laurel sulfate and have found toothpaste and shampoo/conditioner without this ingredient. This immediately got rid of the pustules, although redness has been slower to fade.
