Skin Care Tip: Soft hands
|
submitted by Anonymous
Tip description / details: For several years I used anti-bacterial liquid soap on my hands. They became so dry that my fingers would split and bleed. The skin around my nails was cracked and rough. Someone told me that the anti-bacterial soap dries out your hands. I bought a facial cleanser in a pump, like Aveeno foaming cleanser or Olay foaming face wash to use as my hand soap. The new liquid soap with shea butter seems to be good too. I occasionally use a gentle exfoliating scrub, like St. Ives, which I have found in Big Lots for only a couple of dollars, to remove dead skin cells. At least nightly I use a good moisturizer, like DOVE night lotion with Shea butter. I read it is best to put on lotion within 3-4 minutes of washing. I am over 50 and when people touch my arm or hand they remark, "Oh, your skin is so soft! What lotion do you use?" It has really made a difference. I also have trouble with dermatitis and have had no reactions to these products. Using cotton gloves while folding laundry and using gloves when doing rough chores helps, too. It takes a few extra seconds and some discipline, but it is well worth it.

Results (observed by submitter): My hands are no longer dry, rough and bleeding. The skin around the nails is normal, where before it was always cracked. My skin is very soft and smooth. I receive compliments on how soft my skin is even when someone just accidently brushes my arm. Like "Wow, your skin is SO SOFT!"
