Homemade Skin Care Recipe: pH friendly Rose Hip Cleanser

submitted by Teresa L., New York, NY usa

Tip description / details:
Finding a pH friendly cleanser has been somewhat of a holy grail quest for me for quite some time. I finally found a product, but of course, it's very expensive. So I formulated my own version, and this has worked really well for me and saved me a bundle! It's basically an extremely mild Castille liquid soap to which I add citric acid powder to bring the pH down to below 5.5 (usually try to keep it at 4.5). This preps the skin without stripping the acid mantle and makes the actives that follow more effective.

Ingredients:
100% olive oil Castille liquid soap Rose Hip Seed Oil (or a good oil of your choice) citric acid

How to prepare:
Rose Hip Seed Oil Castille Cleanser 8 oz organic 100% olive oil Castille (this is a personal preference of mine). You can buy this at FromNatureWithLove.com or CountrySoap.com or any good quality castille supplier. 1/4 tsp. citric acid powder per 8 oz Castille (thepersonalformulator.com) RoseHip Seed Oil - I put in two tbsp. but that's just my own preference. You can play around with this ratio according to your skin's needs. I warm up the castille so it's "warm" not HOT. I add 1/4 tsp. citric and dissolve it. I do this in small increments until I achieve the desired pH. Then I add my oil - but that's optional. Voila - pH friendly Castille at a fraction of the cost, which means I can use it on my whole body - not just face - and for the entire family!

How to use:
Use like a regular liquid soap.

Results (observed by submitter):
Soft skin, thoroughly cleansed - pH of 4.5. Instead of paying $22 for 8 oz of Rose Hip Seed cleanser - I get 16. oz for about $10.00

Costs involved:
about $10 for 16 oz.
