Homemade Skin Care Recipe: Lemon & vanilla nail oil
|
submitted by Matty Burns, London, United Kingdom
Tip description / details: A nourishing oil for massaging into your nails to encourage strength & growth.
Ingredients: Olive Oil 1/2 fl oz; Jojoba Oil 1/2 fl oz;
Sweet Almond Oil 1/2 fl oz;
20 drops Lemon Essential Oil;
2 drops Natural Vanilla Essence;
10 grams Dried Horsetail Herb
How to prepare: Combine the three oils in a saucepan. Add the horsetail to the oils. Apply a VERY LOW heat, and leave for approx 1 hour - you should find that the oil changes color and scent as the horsetail is extracted into it. Decant the oil into a bottle, discarding the horsetail. Add the lemon oil and the vanilla essence. if you can't get hold of lemon essential oil, the zest of one lemon added to the oil with the herbs before heating will do just as well.
How to use: Shake well before use as the vanilla essence does not actually mix with oil. Apply to nails and cuticles 2 or 3 times a week, especially after filing and at night, or after use of detergents
Results (observed by submitter): I've found that with regular use my nails have stopped chipping and splitting and are growing well.
Costs involved: Approx $5-$10
