Personal Care Tip: Salt-and-oil scrub for smooth skin

submitted by Caitlin Murphy, Dublin, Ireland

Tip description / details:
I've always found exfoliation with a salt/oil scrub one of the best ways to brighten and moisturize my skin (with the added bonus of ensuring that my skin is moisturized while I shower - useful on those mornings when time is short!) However, the cost of these preparations has always put me off from using them on a regular basis. However I have found that combining regular cooking salt, sunflower oil and several drops of a favorite essential oil (I like rose, lemon or mint) creates a product at least as good as any in the shops. The ingredients are always to hand and it's cheap, too!

Ingredients:
Cooking salt, sunflower oil, essential oil

How to prepare:
Place cup of oil in a jar. Add approx 2/3 cup of salt. Add essential oil of choice - I add 10 drops but more/less can be added depending on how much fragrance you require.

How to use:
Apply with hand to the skin in circular motions.

Results (observed by submitter):
Smoother, moisturized skin

Costs involved:
Minimal
