Almost all of us do our cardio activity at the end of the day, after work, and after at least 2 (if not more) meals. Trainers will often tell you to do at least 30-40 minutes of cardio activity in order burn any fat. Why? Because we're burning off all the carbohydrates we ate during the day. Twenty minutes into your workout, you're finally starting to burn fat. And, let's face it, at the end of the day, who wants to do 40 minutes of cardio? I have learned that there is a simple way to overcome that initial carbohydrate burning: do your cardio first thing in the morning before eating. I didn't believe I could, but with willpower, I started running for 20 minutes before breakfast. I found that the effect was closer to doing 40-50 minutes of cardio at the end of the day. I've saved time and maximized my fat burning potential because the body dips into fat stores right away as the body's levels of glycogen are low after a night of fasting while asleep. The results have been excellent. I have lost 5 of the last ten lbs. that I've been struggling to lose and I hope to eliminate the remaining 5 quite soon.
